Dear Friends,
I am writing to remind you that we have a Winter Birds event next Saturday (22nd) and hope that you will come along to support the Refuge.
At this time, the Refuge needs all the help it can get, due to budget and personnel cuts. In the last weeks we have lost two biologists, putting a great strain on the other staff.
The Friends group does what it can to support the Refuge and, consequently, we need you to support us. Please renew your membership if you have not already done so. Our funding comes from memberships, donations and T-shirt sales, and this money goes back into the Refuge in any way that we can help.
The events that we put on are to show the public what a gem a Wildlife Refuge is and how we need everyone to help it survive.
For our Winter Birds event we have;
· A hike through a closed area of the Refuge to see those winter birds,
· A talk by one of the remaining biologists on a related subject,
· Bird banding demonstration on the smaller birds,
· A wood carver who specializes in birds,
· Museum specimens and refreshments,
We would love to see you between 9:00am and 12:00noon. The talk will likely be at 10:00am and the hike will be at 11:00am.
We anticipate that the weather will be warm enough for all of this, but please dress for warmth and wetness underfoot.
Other activities we have throughout the year include kayak trips, nature walks and lectures. Please contact any of the board members if you might be interested in helping with these or other activities. We need your help.
Hoping to see you this Saturday,
Jan James,
President of the Friends of the MCRWR
